Technically, these photos span Friday and Saturday of this week, but who’s counting?

Friday Amy and I sat in Hyde Park and ate these cuties from Cupcakes on Pitt. After shopping on Crown St., we hopped over to The Clare for some Friday night beers. Saturday was spent at The Finders Keepers Markets, I picked up a dress from the Frankie store, and some sunflowers from The Eveleigh Market, across the lot.

I hope you had a great weekend xx

Summer: Moonlight Cinema

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Every summer I say I am going to the Moonlight Cinema at Centennial Park. I think I’ve actually been once in the past 5 summers here in Sydney. But this year that is all going to change. Behold my picks from the schedule this year:

Saturday December 19th: Fantastic Mr. Fox.

fantastic_mr_fox_large_film.jpg

This is a PREVIEW SCREENING my friends, which means we get to see it before it hits the cinemas. I grew up in one of those families that would sit round as my mum and dad read from this book before bedtime. And now I am all grown up, I also happen to be a big Wes Anderson fan.

Tuesday 29th December: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

It’s been just long enough since I’ve seen this classic 80’s comedy. Get ready to sit among fellow gen Y’s and nostalgically bellow the opening bars of Yello’s Oh Yeah.

Wednesday 20th January: Where The Wild Things Are.

This is going to be so good, it is probably sold out already. WTWTA - in the wild! What could be better? And Max Records is just the cutest little hipster kid ever - with that name, how could he not be rad.

Thursday 11th February: Zoolander.

Again, I watched the pants off this film, but have not seen it in a while. Will it still be funny? I think so. For old times sake.

Sunday 14th February: New York, I Love You.

I just adored Paris, je t’aime, and this is it’s sister film if you will - all about NYC. This is another preview screening, with a stellar cast across eleven short films. This has been in the works for so long, I was hoping it would hit our shores soon. Natalie Portman even directs one of the films. I hope she does a Rap.

For a full rundown of what’s on at the Moonlight Cinema, see their website.

Sydney: Animation Festival

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

picture-19.jpg

Who knew we had our very own animation festival in Sydney? Not me!

Apparently we do though, and it is scheduled for the 4-6th Sept @ UTS.

With screenings from Estonia, Britain and even local content, it looks to be a pretty rad weekend. More info here.

Weekend

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Just some images from my weekend. Sitting around at Macdonaldtown station waiting for the train that only comes every half hour. Also picked up and old (Lady Chatterley’s Lover) and a new (A room of one’s own) penguin classic, which were hanging around my new Keep Cup!

Sydney: Newspaper Taxi

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Sometimes on my day off I like to wander around Newtown and spend all my money. I did a good job of it today when I walked in to Newspaper Taxi on Australia St. and collected some cards.

All the way from Vancouver I scored two cards from The Regional Assembly of Text, with buttons included.

The First one is for my Dad. I’m Retired reads “Congratulations on your retirement. Wear this to avoid all future forms of work.”

The second is for my friends Ed and Sarah to share. I’m Homesick: “You will be dearly missed. On the off chance you miss home, wear this to gain some sympathy”. What a fabulous idea. Go to their website to see their other paper creations

I’m a little obsessed with paper craft at the moment. I have been designing some new postcards which I will be goccoing soon, and am planning a visit to the Penrith Museum of Printing to see how it’s all done. COFA also runs a short course named Designing With Letterpress which I am thinking of undertaking.

Phew! I think I need to go and create something now! CYA xx

Yum: Miss Chu’s Dinner Concept

Did you know Miss Chu’s in Sydney’s Darlinghurst is going to be open for dinner soon! Yummo!

This information was on their board when I went there for lunch last week:

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I got a new bike today! It was so fun to be riding again, even if the streets of Sydney are way meaner than Osaka.

Sydney: Winter Festival

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Dear Sydney Winter Festival,

I have a few bones to pick with you about my ice skating excursion yesterday. Firstly, why would you oversell such a small ice rink, charging 20 bucks each so we can all trip over each other (which in ice skates, can be quite dangerous). Secondly, the ice was really wet, and small children (yes, small children) kept falling over. Thirdly, where do you suggest I leave my bag and shoes while ice skating? Outside the rink where anyone can take them? Or carry them with me so that in the case that I fall over (see point 2) I will really hurt myself? And finally, what was with the music that was blaring through the speakers. It’s Sunday, 75% of us are hungover, can we please have some Burt Bacharach or something similarly soothing?

I’m not usually such a hater, but it was poorly organised, overcrowded and annoying to go ice skating yesterday.

But regardless, here is a happy snap of Amelia and I holding on to each other so we don’t fall.

It’s cold in Sydney!

Monday, June 15th, 2009

snow.jpg

Us Sydneysiders have a habit of crying cold when, compared to the rest of the world, our winter weather is quite bearable. Melbournites, for example, not only have to deal with temperatures under 10 degrees on most days, but are also dealing with a massive swine flu breakout, labelling the city as the Swine Flu capital of Australia. And guess what? It’s not even snowing here. I have lived in Sydney for 6 or more winters without even a heater (although a hot water bottle is a must).

I think we all need to suck it up, put our beanies and berets on, and enjoy the cold weather. I know I wasn’t here for summer, but I remember a lot of you complaining about the 40 degree days (and with reason!) and coming from Japanese winter, this ain’t half bad!

AND, if it wasn’t so cold, going ice-skating in the city this weekend wouldn’t be half as cool. I am not sure if there are tickets left for the ice rink, but you should try to check out the Winter Festival. You never know, the cold may grow on you!

Art: 649 Exhibition

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

649exhibit.jpg

Remember the 888 exhibition from last year? Well curator Mark Gerada is back in 2009 to present the 649 Exhibition.

As this year marks the 20th anniversary of the Tienanmen Square Massacre (Or the June 4th ‘incident’) of 1989, an historical event that is still fresh in many of our minds, The 649 Exhibition was created to commemorates the event.

From their website:

649 will feature new paintings, drawings, video installation and zines by Locust Jones, Deborah Kelly, Chaina Productions, Pmfk, Brian P, Ryan Leech and Mark Gerada (who is also the curator).

649 is also the Sydney base for Deborah Kelly’s Tank Man Tango - a worldwide performance that she has choreographed to occur just before the exhibition opens.

Opening on Thursday 4th June at Sydney’s Serial Space at 7pm! Get your booty’s down there x
