Hi All,
I’ve just moved house, and I have no internet. FYI. I won’ be posting for around a week
If I don’t see you before then, Merry Christmas!
xx

I picked up an issue of this cute mag when I was in Christchurch. It’s full of crafty/sustainable goodness, and you can order it online from their website. Kawaii.
xx

Technically, these photos span Friday and Saturday of this week, but who’s counting?
Friday Amy and I sat in Hyde Park and ate these cuties from Cupcakes on Pitt. After shopping on Crown St., we hopped over to The Clare for some Friday night beers. Saturday was spent at The Finders Keepers Markets, I picked up a dress from the Frankie store, and some sunflowers from The Eveleigh Market, across the lot.
I hope you had a great weekend xx
The Drums are THE band to listen to this summer. I fall in love with a stranger every time I listen to their album. I really wanted to post a video for Down By The Water, but there isn’t one. So instead I posted a very summer song, Let’s Go Surfing. Love love love.
Every summer I say I am going to the Moonlight Cinema at Centennial Park. I think I’ve actually been once in the past 5 summers here in Sydney. But this year that is all going to change. Behold my picks from the schedule this year:
Saturday December 19th: Fantastic Mr. Fox.

This is a PREVIEW SCREENING my friends, which means we get to see it before it hits the cinemas. I grew up in one of those families that would sit round as my mum and dad read from this book before bedtime. And now I am all grown up, I also happen to be a big Wes Anderson fan.
Tuesday 29th December: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
It’s been just long enough since I’ve seen this classic 80’s comedy. Get ready to sit among fellow gen Y’s and nostalgically bellow the opening bars of Yello’s Oh Yeah.
Wednesday 20th January: Where The Wild Things Are.

This is going to be so good, it is probably sold out already. WTWTA - in the wild! What could be better? And Max Records is just the cutest little hipster kid ever - with that name, how could he not be rad.
Thursday 11th February: Zoolander.
Again, I watched the pants off this film, but have not seen it in a while. Will it still be funny? I think so. For old times sake.
Sunday 14th February: New York, I Love You.

I just adored Paris, je t’aime, and this is it’s sister film if you will - all about NYC. This is another preview screening, with a stellar cast across eleven short films. This has been in the works for so long, I was hoping it would hit our shores soon. Natalie Portman even directs one of the films. I hope she does a Rap.

My friend Ed sent me this. It’s funny.

There are so many vamps and wolves and whatever else lurking around our TV sets lately. It’s hard to keep up with who’s who, or in this case - who’s eating who. Well fear not, lovegeek has come to your rescue with the timely VAMPIRE TV RUNDOWN! Read on…
Plot: Girl is Vampire Slayer in small American town. Girl meets Vampire. Girl tries to kill Vampire. Girl falls in love with Vampire. Girl and Vampire have sex, Vampire loses his soul. Hellmouth. Angst. Repeat.
Characteristics: Witty one liners that gave the series cult status among nerds and teens alike.
Pros: Buffy epitomises the 90’s GIRL POWER heroine. She literally kicks ass and gets laid while doing it (none of that virgin stuff here). Superb supporting cast that can occasionally sing and dance. Awesome fan art (see above).
Cons: It ended after 7 seasons.
Overview: Buffy broke away from the movie into a Joss Whedon orchestrated phenomenon. With Firefly and Dollhouse not filling the gap that the series left, there is room left in TV land for some more hard hitting vamp romps. Enter:
True Blood
Plot: Girl wears short shorts and works in a diner in small American town. Girl meets Vampire Bill. Girl falls for Vampire Bill. Girl drinks Vampire Eric’s blood. Girl has sexy dreams about Vampire Eric. Satanic rituals. Maenads. The saga continues.
Characteristics: Short shorts, country music, “Sookeh” and sex. I wana do bad things with you. Jason Stackhouse’s abs.
Pros: Damn this series is hotter than Brandon Walsh in a hot tub when I was 14 years old. While the plot may be sex, sex and more sex, the sub plot hits on some good old Civil Rights Movement issues, all with a southern twang.
Cons: We all know Stackhouse was Vinnie in Home and Away. Sookeh is annoying, and yet the main character.
Overview: Is True Blood riding on the coat tails of The Twilight Saga? NOPE. As Vampire Bill famously said - Edward Cullen is the Diet Coke of Vampires, which is more than I can say for:
The Vampire Diaries
Plot: Girl lives in small American Town. Girl meets Vampire. Girl looks strikingly similar to Vampire’s ex from 100 years ago. People die of animal attacks. Girl and Vamp hook up (and then break up, and then really hook up). Angst.
Characteristics: Pouting. Obsessive diary writing played out with voice over. Good V’s Evil represented by two Vampire brothers after the heart of the same girl.
Pros: The cast are fairly nice to look at. SPOILER! When Viki Donavan turns into a vamp she kinda rules.
Cons: The plot is repetitive. Stefan channels far too much Edward Cullen for my liking.
Overview: It will never be the cult classic that Buffy is and that True Blood is sure to become. The writing is just not up to scratch, lacks depth and well, the story is now getting old.

As for the cause of this Vampire revival - The Twilight Saga - it appears to be smashing all box office records with it’s second installment, New Moon.
Watch out for Jacob Black’s Abs, as they are the biggest star in this film and are sure to making a comeback in the third film, Eclipse. Poor Robert Pattinson had to have his abs painted on in the final scenes, and yes - you can tell! (Twilight fan art is also of the highest caliber - see above). The most interesting tidbit that came out from the opening weekend was that 50% of Twihards are actually over 21…I don’t think this trend is going to die down anytime soon, no pun intended.

It’s been ten years since Titanic, and the public want some Jimmy Cameron. But will his much anticipated Avatar be the film that broke the box office’s back?
I saw the trailer on the weekend. My though process went something like this:
HEY! That’s Sam Worthington. He sure looks better on the big screen than last time I saw him in the wee hours at The Judgie. Oh wait, is that the chick from fast and the furious? Wow, that planet looks cool. Pandora huh? I have a friend named Pandora…GIANT BLUE CGI ALIENS.
After that I kinda lost what was going on. I love these futuristic comments on colonialism, the mistakes of our past replayed in parallel contexts for us to ponder upon. It’s nice to think that some military hoon would feel sympathy for the ‘natives’ and rebel, but in real life we know that people don’t really fight wars anymore, just robots.
But srsly, the idea seems rad. The execution and animation? Not so. Even the title seems like one of those ploys to capitalise on cool internet speak - but we all know how that turned out for the i-snack 2.0…
UPDATE:
Turns out Avatar was cool, as was the animation. But I have also found out that an Avatar is actually a Hindu word that means a diety descends from heaven. An incarnation if you will.
Hi Everyone.
Sorry I have been AWOL as of late, but I have really needed some time off to focus on what I am doing with lovegeek, and where I want it to go. I have decided not to make any more issues of the web zine, and will be focusing solely on the blog from now on.
So, let’s catch up! Here is a rundown of my events for the past month or so:
I hope you’ve all being having a great time of it as well. It’s good to be back.
