Who knew you couldn’t get Quarter Pounders (QP) in Japan until this month? Well, I sure didn’t, but it was hard not to notice the massive QP promotion that lead us to McDonalds in Harajuku last week. Not just any McDonalds mind you, this one is a special McDonalds that only sells QP…WHY?

Well, according to this post, McDonalds undertook a viral campaign to introduce the humble QP to it’s new audience, which involved opening two unbranded stores in Tokyo, simply named Quarter Pounder. There was a mystery surrounding the stores, even though anyone from the west would immediately know it was Macca D’s, and people were left wondering “What is it, this Quarter Pounder thing?”

Well, as far as I can tell the gamble paid off, as last week in Harajuku there was an half hour on the street wait at the QP store. Which was a bummer for Hon as it was number three on his list of things to do in Tokyo.

We asked ourselves, why not just go to a normal McDonalds and get a QP, and it was then we realised they were new here!
